How To Buy A Kettlebell

Kettlebells are offered in 9, 13, 18, 26, 35, 53, 62, 70, 88, and 106-pounds and designed in Russia and made with pride in the USA.  Kettlebells were designed to give you a super workout with just one or two fixed weights.  An average man should start with a 35-pounder. It does not sound like a lot but believe it; it feels a lot heavier than it should! Most men will eventually progress to a 53-pounder, the standard issue size in the Russian military. Although available in most units, 70-pounders are used only by few advanced guys and in elite competitions. 88-pounders are for mutants. The 106-pound kettlebell (The Beast) is reserved for the elite of the elite. An average woman should start with an 18-pounder. A strong woman can go for a 26-pounder.  A few hard women will go beyond.  The following are my recommendations for kettlebell selections in reference to golf conditioning.

18 lb: average women with some strength training experience.
26 lb: for strong, athletic women with a solid strength training foundation men with a below average strength base.
35 lb: a VERY strong woman and the man of average strength
53 lb: For the man of above average strength that can bench press 225 lbs or more.
Any weight above 53 pounds requires significant kettlebell strength and experience.

It is my suggestion that golfers buy 1 heavy kettlebell and one lighter kettlebell. For example if you get the 35lb as your heavy kettlebell, get the 26-pound for your lighter weight.
